Blog

Welcome to my journey. I thought it wise to give a little explainer to start to help the post sequence make sense to you. To start, posts are not necessarily in chronological order, like a diary. I decided to etch my journey to print a year into it so consider this a blog of two parts, or, in reality, two different types of post.

One type of post is recording the overall journey, plans and life happenings. Things about the whole "moving and living in Thailand" stuff. These will be in chronological order, it's just that not every post is of this type. Given I decided to start recounting my adventure a year into it I have some catching up to do. Rather than merely a diarised account, hindsight has allowed me the opportunity to compose hopefully more thoughtful, insightful and useful records.

The second type of post I did not expect to be writing. Hell, I didn't expect to be experiencing. I knew there were things about Thai culture and people I loved before moving to Thailand. Things that moved me, inspired me, and changed me. However, when you arrive here and start seeing more and wanting to understand, it opens the flood gates to realisations.

Thai culture is obviously based on Buddhism however I’m not going to get all spiritual sounding. I’m a very pragmatic person so I will sanitise, interpret and explain for a western person's understanding. Call it psychology, or call it spiritual, whatever fits your thinking and beliefs, the lessons are the important part.

The fact is that much of what western psychologists will tell you can be directly compared to Buddhist wisdoms.  Truth be told, these learnings will be based on a lot of my own challenges in life and the answers Thailand inspires. Sure, some of my issues are based on living here, but people everywhere have the same issues, it's only the triggers that change.
